Transplant week

It is recognised that although people may sign up for the Organ Donor Register, they don't always advise the people closest to them about what they would like to happen after their death.

NHS Blood and Transplant recognise that more women (54%) than men (46%) have signed up on the NHS Organ Donor Register.

Currently, the oldest recorded recipient of an organ in the UK is an 85-year-old kidney patient and the oldest recipient of a cornea transplant in the UK was 104.

The number of living donor kidney transplants has more than quadrupled in the last ten years and now account for one in nearly three of all kidney transplants.

Further information on NHS inform.

National transplant week is an annual awareness week running across the whole of the UK from July 9 to July 14.

The campaign is called ‘Pass it On’ and encourages people to join the NHS Organ Donor Register
