Fred MacAulay can’t wait to get going on the STV Appeal West Highland Way Challenge

Fred MacAulay is as ready as he’ll ever be for the STV Appeal West Highland Way Celeb Challenge. The only thing he fears is picking up a blister.

But he reckons the company of his famous walking companions, Rory Bremner, Hue and Cry, and two former Miss Scotlands Jennifer Reoch and Katharine Brown, will help him along the way.

He said: “I’m not a Munro bagger, but I’ve walked a few hills and the West Highland Way is one of the challenges that has always been on the horizon. There is so much of this beautiful country I’ve not seen yet.”

Presenter and comic Fred also revealed that his two sons, both in their early 20s, have shown an interested in joining him, but particularly on the day his walking companions are former Miss Scotlands Jennifer Reoch and Katharine Brown. “I’m told it’s just a coincidence,” he said.

Fred and his STV Appeal entourage will spend the evenings of their West Highland Way challenge performing in local pubs and bars.

Sales Manager from Tunnock’s Fergus Loudon said: “Tunnock’s are delighted to be involved. It’s such an important thing to help children in Scotland who are less fortunate than ourselves.

“We are delighted that Fred has taken up the challenge, I’m sure he’ll rise to it. With a few caramel waifers in his diet, it’ll give him a wee boost and a spring in his step.”

To support Fred, make a donation via his Just Giving page. You can also donate to his celebrity pals who are joining him for the challenge, David Hayman, Jennifer Reoch and Katharine Brown, Nick Nairn, John MacKay, Jane McCarry and Mark Cox, Scott Hastings, Greg and Pat Kane and Clare Grogan.
