STV Appeal Live: Paul Brannigan reveals how caring mentor helped change his life

Paul Brannigan may be enjoying success after landing a part in critically acclaimed movie the Angels’ Share, but life was far from glamorous for the young actor when he was growing up.

You can find out all about Paul’s incredible journey, from a rundown tenement with heroin addict parents, to having a family of his own and acting glory, in hard hitting documentary Born To Lose, available to watch now on the STV Player.

Tonight, Paul and the man he credits with helping him through some of the darkest periods in his life, mentor Paul Kelly, joined Lorraine Kelly on the STV Appeal sofa to stress how important it is to support charities which can change the lives of children living in poverty.

Paul B admitted that having someone who cares, someone who will give you a chance in life truly can make a difference.

Paul Kelly works for Sidekicks youth football project but he was keen to stress that the organisation is much more than just a sports group.

He told Lorraine: “First and foremost we’re a company that helps young people work with confidence.”

And it clearly worked for Mr Brannigan! With TV roles and his part in forthcoming Scarlett Johansson horror Under The Skin coming up, Paul is proof that the right support can dramatically change someone’s life for the better.

With the thousands that are currently flooding in to the STV Appeal to help children living in poverty in Scotland, let’s hope there are plenty more success stories like Paul Brannigan’s ahead.
